Underwater Acoustic Imaging, Diver Assistance
2008
After Hurricane Katrina, Boh Bros. Construction Company, LLC, set out to detect hazards left beneath the murky waters of the Port of New Orleans’ inner harbor navigation canal.
The company hired Fenstermaker to use our Underwater Acoustic Imaging technology to carry out the project. Our Acoustic Imaging Group configured scanning sonar to gather imagery of the underwater portions of support structures for vehicular and railway bridges that cross the canal at Almonaster Ave., Florida Ave., and Seabrook. The data was then analyzed for damage. Fenstermaker also inspected the canal for sunken barges, ships, boats and other debris that could impede harbor traffic. The results were then shared with Boh Bros., Modjeski and Masters, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to address any problems or potential transportation hazards.
