Fenstermaker was asked to create, calibrate, validate, and run an eco-hydrology compartment model of the Chenier Plain. Our team was tasked with implementing multiple proposed restoration and hurricane protection projects and performing multiple numerical simulations that included various combinations of proposed projects. The outputs consisted of stage, salinity, temperature, and many water quality constituents. Fenstermaker was also asked to collaborate with other teams to feed output to each other in order to create a 50-year outlook. The results of this compartment model helped CPRA to determine which projects to include in the Master Plan. The scope included Numerical Modeling, GIS Manipulation, Inter-Agency Coordination, and QA/QC Services. Based on previous experience and high quality of work Fenstermaker displayed in 2012 Louisiana Statewide Coastal Master Plan, The Water Institute of the Gulf and CPRA requested that Fenstermaker serve as a member of the 2017 Louisiana Statewide Coastal Master Plan team. Fenstermaker’s Ecohydrology team was asked to refine the models’ compartments in the Pontchartrain/Barataria Basin and Chenier Plain regions and to collaborate with the vegetation and wetland morphology teams to combine all of the model codes into one comprehensive numerical model. The team helped develop the code, set up the model simulations and projects, run the simulations, and post-process the results. The scope includes 60+ numerical simulations that feature various proposed restoration and hurricane protection projects.
