It is with great pride and enthusiasm that Fenstermaker announces the promotion of Steve Draughon, P.E., to Director of Construction Administration. With nearly four decades of expertise, Steve brings unparalleled knowledge and decisive leadership to this new role.

After graduating from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Steve joined the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s Lake Charles District Materials Lab. Over the next 34 years, he built an impressive portfolio, gaining familiarity with nearly every facet of construction. Humble yet accomplished, Steve describes himself as a ‘jack of all trades, master of few.’

“I’ve worked in the field, the lab, and the office—from public works to water resources, drainage design to project administration—if it’s part of construction, I’ve done it.”

Steve’s career at DOTD spanned from materials lab work to construction, ultimately leading him into design. He steadily rose through the ranks, culminating in his role as Assistant District Administrator of Engineering. After retiring from DOTD in 2021, Steve wasn’t ready to slow down—and that’s when Fenstermaker came calling.

Having collaborated with Fenstermaker on numerous projects throughout the years, Steve was already well-acquainted with the firm. Not but one month into retirement, he joined Fenstermaker as Construction Administrator, bringing his 30+ years of know-how to new kinds of projects, saying,

“Since joining Fenstermaker, I’ve taken on projects quite different from what I handled at DOTD—mainly water, wastewater, and wastewater structures. It’s an entirely new area for me. Learning these processes has been both challenging and rewarding.”

Steve’s vast experience in construction, paired with his strong work ethic and strategic mindset, has been the key to success in many complex projects, including the design and construction of new and rehabilitated roadways, drainage structures, as well as water and wastewater infrastructure. In his new role as Director of Construction Administration, Steve will lead the Construction Engineering & Inspection team under Vice President of Engineering, Raymond Reaux, P.E., who has this to say of Steve’s promotion:

“With over three decades of experience at the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, combined with three years at Fenstermaker, Steve is exceptionally equipped to step into the Director of Construction Administration role. His profound knowledge of construction and the industry will be a tremendous asset as we continue to grow and serve our clients. I have the utmost respect for Steve and am confident his leadership will elevate our Construction team to new heights.”
