Engineering Director, Dax Douet, P.E., speaks on spot dredging underway in the Vermilion River—Lafayette Public Trust Fund Authority’s downtown office hosted Bayou Vermilion District for a special presentation.
In Q1 ’21, Fenstermaker conducted bathymetric survey of the Vermilion River at the request of Lafayette Consolidated Government, mapping 31mi using specialized sonar equipment to create a 3D rendering of the river bottom.
Fenstermaker ID’d 600+ anomalies—indicating potential debris—data then used to conduct clean up completed Feb ’22.
Now targeting a particularly shallow 4,000ft section of the river near Rotary Point, a survey-data-fueled spot dredging effort has begun with a goal of bringing the water bottom to a depth of 8-10ft, improving navigability through much needed maintenance.
Fenstermaker worked closely with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to obtain necessary permits, ensuring all regulatory requirements were met in advance of this project.
