What does this job entail?

The Environmental Specialist, based out of Baton Rouge, Lafayette, or Lake Charles, LA, will conduct site assessments, provide the necessary information and support to produce exceptional reports, and assist with environmental permitting for customers. The Environmental Specialist will work directly with the office manager to perform the job responsibilities and assist with mentoring and training junior staff in wetland delineations, T&E species habitat assessments, and project permitting. The Environmental Specialist will be a champion and leader of our company’s core values while maintaining internal and external customer engagement and satisfaction.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Delineating of wetlands as per the 1987 USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and appropriate regional supplements.
  • Coordinating and conducting fieldwork.
  • Strong commitment to complying with Fenstermaker safety standards.
  • Preparing requisite reports and associated maps.
  • Leading wetland delineations and T&E species habitat assessments.
  • Developing and managing stormwater pollution prevention plans.
  • Providing environmental and regulatory guidance on federal (USACE), state, and municipal laws to ensure compliance.
  • Supporting team members with project permitting at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Performing limited soil sampling.

Am I qualified for this position?

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a major in Environmental Science or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of directly related industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and situational awareness while conducting field operations.
  • Ability to conduct field operations and lead a team through physically demanding tasks.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge in plant identification.
  • Familiarity with Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
  • Previous experience in wetland delineations and identification of hydric soils and plant species.
  • Proficiency in ESRI software suite, GPS, and field data collection.
  • Ability to travel; may require occasional overnight stays.
