Hurricane Response Depth of Cover & Hydrographic Survey

In July of 2019, Hurricane Barry made landfall in South Louisiana and had an impact on Marsh Island, Intracoastal City, and the surrounding areas. To ensure that utilities within the shallow water areas are not affected by storms, all utility owners/operators are required by law to survey their infrastructure post storm and address any issues found.

In the fall of 2019, Fenstermaker was contracted to perform a shallow depth of cover survey covering a total of over 152 miles for 25 different pipeline segments throughout the Gulf of Mexico, Vermilion Bay, and West and East Cote Blanche Bays. To accomplish this task, Fenstermaker developed a unique survey plan that included surveying each line using multiple passes with acoustics survey technology that consists of side scan sonar, CDL Mini-tilt, single beam echosounder, and a marine magnetometer. Once the survey was completed Fenstermaker determined that its team had surveyed a total of 460 miles of lines along the pipeline corridors. The results of the survey supported the clients overall goal of ensuring that the pipeline infrastructure remains safe for marine navigation and for the environment.
