David Campbell, Survey Field Operations Leader, Earns PLS Designation in Colorado

We are overjoyed in announcing that David Campbell, Survey Field Operations Leader here at Fenstermaker, has earned his PLS Designation in the state of Colorado.

Growing up in a small town in Louisiana, David was fortunate to be taught land survey. He was mentored by a teacher who guided many local students into land surveying and helped them to find work post training. David began his career at Fenstermaker in 2003 and has lent his skills and enthusiasm to the Survey & Mapping team ever since. He has been a key member of the Fenstermaker family for nearly twenty years, and it was the COVID-19 pandemic coupled with encouragement from his manager, Travis Bodin, MBA, PLS, PMP, Vice President, Survey & Mapping, that pushed David to make the time to further his education and certification goals.

Desiring to follow in the path of Fenstermaker veterans like John Fenstermaker (PLS), Rex Jones (PLS), and Leroy Gary (PLS), David embarked on his journey toward PLS certification. He describes the process as one of the hardest things that he’s ever had to do. It takes long hours, and difficult exams at multiple points along the way to achieve PLS designation in a single state. Adding to the difficulty are changing regulations in each state, which have the freedom to direct their own PLS certification requirements. Now that David has conquered PLS certification for Colorado, we’re pleased to know that he’s continuing on this path of professional growth.

David has already tested in the state of South Dakota and is waiting on results. Arkansas is next on the list, and David has Texas and Mississippi in his sights. He cites a desire to expand both his own skill set and Fenstermaker’s talent range as the chief reasons for continuing to work toward PLS certification across multiple states, saying, “It builds our reputation as a full-service team by growing state to state certifications, especially with long, multi-state pipelines.”

David and I have worked together for many years, and the one thing that has always been clear to me is his passion for the survey profession. I have never met a person who is as passionate about what we do as David. It shines through in everything he does, and I believe it motivates others to want to progress their careers. By getting his license, David proves that it is never too late to accomplish your goals.
