Ian B. Trahan, P.E. is a Senior Engineer that obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1997, his Professional Engineering License in Illinois in 2002, and his Professional Engineering License in Louisiana in 2004. He brings twenty-four years of engineering experience to Fenstermaker. Mr. Trahan has a diverse portfolio of engineering experience he has accumulated throughout his career. He has roadway design experience; including interstates, highways, and local roadways. In 2001, Mr. Trahan was recruited from Louisiana to Peoria, Illinois for an Illinois DOT project for Clark Engineers, Inc. He served as deputy project manager and project engineer for Clark Engineers’ design portion of the Upgrade 74. More than 111,000 tons of concrete and 11-million pounds of steel beams helped rebuild an aging 8-mile stretch of Interstate 74 through Peoria and East Peoria. Dirt moved by road crews during the four-year construction period, if poured into a 3-foot-square cube, would rise more than 1,400 miles, nearly four times as high as the Hubble Space Telescope. Upgrade 74 was one of downstate Illinois’ largest road projects ever with a price tag of nearly $500 million.
Locally, Mr. Trahan designed the I-10 westbound exit/entrance ramps and Rieger Road connections for the Pecue Lane/I-10 Interchange project for DOTD; which includes a Divergent Diamond Interchange, the first of its kind in Louisiana. Mr. Trahan owned his own engineering firm where he specialized in the design of medium to large scale residential and commercial developments. As the owner of Trahan Engineer, LLC, he served Mayor Charles Langlinais as one of the City Engineers for the City of Broussard from 2005 to 2008. Mr. Trahan has hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling experience. He represented the City of Broussard as a member of the Lafayette City-Parish Consolidated Government Drainage Technical Committee reviewing the 2008 Lafayette Parish FEMA Flood Insurance Study and Preliminary FEMA FIRM Maps. Mr. Trahan has experience in Construction Cost estimates and detailed Cost Loaded Construction Schedules for the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects using MCASES MII and Construction Scheduling using Primavera P6.
Prior to coming to Fenstermaker, Mr. Trahan was the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) Program Manager for DOTD’s participation in the Louisiana Watershed Initiative (LWI). Mr. Trahan oversaw the DOTD/LWI Statewide Modeling Program, as well as serving as a Project Manager for four of seven modeling teams across the entire State of Louisiana. He participated in various LWI Technical Advisory Groups, represented DOTD on the LWI Working Group, and represented DOTD on the LWI Technical Design and Quality (TDQ) Team. Mr. Trahan has worked in both private and government sectors of the engineering industry and brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to Fenstermaker.
Mr. Trahan is married to Natalie Gormanous-Trahan and they have two high school children, Zachary and Gabrielle. He has an older son, Ian, from a previous marriage to a German national, and has three grandchildren named Lian and Luca (twins) and Emmy Grace who all live in Germany. Mr. Trahan enjoys travel abroad, exercise (powerlifting), shooting sports (skeet, trap, and sporting clays), landscaping, camping, hiking, saltwater fishing, and most of all; spending time with his family!
