Fenstermaker designed and implemented the new state-of-the-art Water Treatment Plant for the City of Carencro. The facility now has a capacity to produce up to two million gallons of water per day. Design provisions were made so that the plant can be expanded to handle 4 million gallons of water per day through an additional bank of filters. The 8,000 square foot cinder block masonry building houses four 12′ diameter greensand filters, one 6,000 gallon caustic soda tank, one 6,000 gallon sodium permanganate tank, a complete chlorination room, and a master control center (MCC).
The design of the building included a SCADA system that allows the plant operator to monitor and control the plant’s operations from remote locations via internet access. The plant incorporates a unique feed system for the injection of caustic soda and sodium permanganate. With this system, these chemicals are delivered to the treatment plant in an aqueous form, eliminating the need for daily batching of chemicals. The addition of this system reduces the City’s labor costs while also minimizing the risk of injury during the handling of the dry chemicals.
