Fenstermaker was the lead design firm for the US 90 (I-49 South) Design-Build project, which widened US 90 from four lanes to six. This section was integrated into the proposed I-49 South Corridor. The expansion begins at Albertson’s Parkway and continues to the Ambassador Caffery interchange. Improvements to the roadway included several miles of frontage roads and multiple overpasses. Some of the main elements of the six-lane mainline roadway project as put forth by the Louisiana Department of Transportation (LA DOTD) included an overpass at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, a grade separation at Albertson’s Parkway and improved connectivity between US 90 and LA 182.
The US 90 (I-49 South) project included a new grade-separated interchange and overpass bridge structures. For this portion of the project, Fenstermaker served as the primary sub-consultant to James Construction Group in providing roadway and drainage design, utility coordination, construction sequence plans and the management of seven sub-consultants.
The US 90 (I-49 South) Design-Build project was selected as the ACEC of Louisiana’s Grand Award Winner in the 2019 Engineering Excellence Awards. The project won in the category of Transportation. Click here to read more.
