In 2008, Hurricane Ike caused substantial damage to an 11-mile section of the Cameron Creole Watershed Project. The water control levee surrounding the project was in non-functional condition and therefore did not provide protection to fish, wildlife, and wetlands from high salinities in the area. The Cameron-Creole watershed consists of 64,000 acres of brackish, intermediate, and fresh marsh located in the Calcasieu/Sabine Basin in Cameron Parish, LA, as part of the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge.

Chosen by the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) for the project, Fenstermaker performed all the engineering services necessary to accomplish the objectives of the Cameron Creole Maintenance Project. Our engineers conducted a pre-construction conference and drafted detailed construction drawings. Fenstermaker also provided on-site construction inspections, issued instructions to contractors, reviewed the contractor’s invoices, and completed a final inspection for project acceptance. For this project, Fenstermaker had the materials barged in from remote areas and transferred along the entire eleven miles of the repaired levee.
